Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in the Presleys’ 2-room shack on the Old Saltillo Road in Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis had a twin brother who was still born, Jesse Garon Presley.
At the time of Elvis’ birth, his father, Vernon, was only 18 years old and his mother, Gladys, was 22. Interestingly, on Elvis’ birth certificate, Vernon is listed as aged 20 and Gladys 21. Vernon’s occupation is “Laborer” and Gladys’ is “Factory Worker.”
Vernon Presley described the period of Elvis’ birth in detail in this interview, published in Good Housekeeping magazine, from January 1978, which was given with Nancy Anderson.
